All Church Labor Day Retreat – September 2-4

WHO’S INVITED?

You! All of us! Come as you are…

  • Newer to our community and those who’ve been at FPC for a long time.
  • Young and “more life-experienced.”
  • Single or with your partner and/or kids and/or other folks dear to you.
  • People of all colors, shapes, sizes.
  • Whatever your letters: LGBTQIA+ … AA … OSU, PSU, U of O…
  • Outdoorsy or happier sitting on the porch.
  • Church retreat veterans or not quite sure what you’re signing up for.

WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

The All Church Labor Day Retreat offers our faith community time together in a beautiful location for an exceptional experience. Stepping away (or escaping) our lives’ usual responsibilities and distractions gives us a chance to breathe fresh air, marvel at creation, have more meaningful conversations/interactions with our fellow church members and look for God’s presence among us.

WHO IS OUR LEADER?

Beth Gunn is an experienced leader of worship, recreation and Christian education who currently serves as Associate for Youth at the Presbytery of Western North Carolina. In 2013 she was invited to captain the recreation team for the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, the largest gathering our denomination holds with over 3,000 teen attendees! So we’re in good hands. At Menucha, Beth will lead us in a program called Sharing Our Stories.

WHEN IS IT?

Friday afternoon, September 2 – Sunday afternoon, September 4

  • Option: Saturday only
  • Option: Sunday BBQ picnic lunch

WHERE IS IT?

Menucha Retreat & Conference Center, a ministry started by FPC members in 1950 when a historic estate in the Columbia River Gorge 22 miles from downtown Portland came up for sale. The congregation saw the opportunity to offer guests something that would enrich lives and draw people closer to God. More info here: https://menucha.org/guest-information/history

Menucha’s street address is 38711 E Historic Columbia River Highway, Corbett, OR.  https://menucha.org/directions

WHY?

Fellowship with other Christians is an opportunity for spiritual growth and is necessary to keep a church healthy. After our lengthy pandemic separation, spending time together again to re-connect is even more important. Plus, it will be fun!

The mission of the Labor Day Retreat is for participants to draw closer to God, closer to nature, and closer to each other.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

In order to make the retreat affordable to as many people in our community as possible, we have 3 tiers of pricing. Choose the one that fits best for your financial situation. Tier 2 is the cost per person for the weekend. If you need to pay a little less, choose Tier 1. If you are able to pay a little more, choose Tier 3.

Children aged 0-6 attend for free!

WHAT IF IT IS STILL TOO EXPENSIVE?

We have scholarships. The session has approved funds to help all interested members attend. If the Tier 1 cost is still prohibitive for you, please email Pastor Spencer Parks (spencer@menucha.org) or call him at 503-695-2243 to talk about it.

HOW ABOUT COVID?

Menucha follows the Oregon Health Authority’s instructions regarding Covid-19. While masks are no longer required inside buildings, any guest is welcome to wear a mask at any time.

Proof of vaccination is required at check-in.
