Yesterday, we started the morning at the primary school going around as a group with teacher Beth talking to many of the classrooms about the U.S. and how important it is to read. A few of us also read a children’s book to the younger classrooms, including a Clifford’s book. Later in that afternoon, we went to watch soccer tournaments with both the boy’s and girl’s team between other school teams.
While we were there, it started raining a lot so everyone hid under the building roofs. We all squished together as well with other people. It lasted longer than we thought it would, so Rick and Kathryn got very wet. Alex even saw a goat in the outhouse! But it cleared up to watch a little more and both teams won their games. Many people ran out on the field after scoring a goal, and Joshua and Alex ran out on the field briefly too. We even got to see a big, bright moon up in the sky at night.
Today, Friday, we were a little tired starting out, but we saw a Brown Parrot outside the Inspiration Center. At the school, Kathryn and Sarah went to watch Simon’s class, who is the culinary and hospitality teacher. While they were there, Lindsey, Rick and Alex went with Joshua to talk to the teacher in charge of teaching building and construction to students. We learned more about it, and went to get Kathryn and Sarah. As a group, we then walked down to the fishponds. They were beautiful ponds and had an attractive view. While we were there, we watched a King Fisher fly above the ponds and dive into it a few times to catch a fish. After lunch, Rick, Kathryn and Alex joined Joshua and Urban to ride to a couple stores in Kamwenge. Later, Kathryn and Sarah went back to the school to help give a presentation about health to around 250-300 girls. While they were there, Rick, Lindsey and Alex went on a hike, and it was interesting to see how more people live around here and the hills this country has. There have been many, but tonight had an especially beautiful sunset across the sky with many colors. Each day, we learn more about Uganda, about each other, and make some wonderful memories with everything around us.
