Lenten Organ Chorale Offerings Each Wednesday through Holy Week, we will be offering a Bach organ chorale to sustain us all in our Lenten journey. March 3rd O Mensch, bewein’ dein’ Sünde groß, BWV 622, is one of Bach’s most sublime pieces, in the form of a tender ornamented chorale. The text asks us to look inward, reflecting on our own flaws. This week, we’ve entered a season in the church year known as Lent; a time of penitence and preparation for Easter.  This began with Ash Wednesday, a time of marking our foreheads with ash, and hearing the sobering reminder, all the more poignant in these times, held in the traditional words, “Remember we are dust, and to dust we shall return.” Some eleven months into the pandemic season, there is a sense that we’ve already been living in a kind of Lent, with some of the deprivation, solitude, and reflection usually reserved for these contemplative seasons.  Our reading for this Sunday is of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness.  In Mark’s version of this story, there are few details, only that he was tempted and was with the wild animals, ministered to by angels. Lenten Spiritual Practice Cohorts

FPC is offering a different way to experience Lent this year with a spiritual practice cohort. Participants in the cohorts will learn to cultivate resilient faith, authentic connections, and grow a deeper connection with God by engaging in different forms of ancient and modern spiritual practices. Our themes will be: Journaling – Anam Cara (Soul Friends), Thresholds – Blessings, Landscape as Theophany (God revealed through nature) & Paradox. Cohorts will be offered during the six Tuesdays of Lent from 9-10 am & 6-7 pm, (beginning on Sunday, February 21st).
