This year’s Stewardship Campaign at First Presbyterian Church.

Live Our Faith Logo

During this unprecedented year, our congregation at First Presbyterian Church has been shepherded by our pastors, staff and lay leaders. They have provided weekly streaming church services which have guided, uplifted, comforted, and encouraged us. Through our monthly Spire and weekly eBlasts, we have been offered many opportunities for social interaction, such as volunteer activities, Zoom book club, bible study and coffee hour. The focus of our 2021 stewardship campaign is to “live our faith”, so we prayerfully ask that you remember how essential your pledge is to the ongoing work of First Presbyterian Church. Please help us meet these extraordinary challenges. Virtual Pledge Form in CCB Last week we were glad to have Jon and Sally Bates do a Moment for Stewardship. This week we will welcome Doug Blomgren. Update on Julia West project:

Julia West New

A task group from our church has been working toward redevelopment of the church’s Julia West site, seeking funding to build low-income housing with supportive services on site. We have recently had news that the State of Oregon’s Oregon Housing and Community Services agency (OHCS) will be issuing a funding round in the Spring of 2021, and Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) will be issuing a bond funding round by the end of this year. The developer with whom our church is working, Community Development Partners, have let us know that both look promising for the Julia West project. Thanks for your continuing interest and prayers for the next chapter of Julia West’s life!   [...]

Resources in Response to the Killing of George Floyd

Please scroll down for other resources, including those from our Presbytery and denomination. Dear friends, In recent days, the tumultuous impacts of the coronavirus have left a sense that the usual certainties and patterns of life have undergone a shaking of the foundations.  This has been compounded by an appalling act of violence in the killing of George Floyd, and the many protests that have happened in its wake, as well as the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.  Though we have seen over the years too many of these killings, there was something uniquely chilling in the image of a man’s knee on another’s neck, something that echoed the years and even centuries of oppression, bereft of any sense of common humanity. W.E.B. DuBois, an American sociologist and the first African-American to earn a Harvard doctorate, [...]

Coronavirus Season Update

Dear friends, During these days amid all the changes and challenges they are holding, First Presbyterian is continuing to connect with our congregation, church friends, and those exploring our website. While apart, we are still the church.  With God and with each other, we are not alone. As this time of sheltering at home has continued, people are seeking things to sustain their soul.  Hoping you’ll stream our Sunday worship services at 10:30 am, or look at the Virtual Vespers services, quiet times of reflecting on faith and spirit.  You’ll also find here children’s sermons and creative resources for families at home with children. Many church groups are continuing to meet by Zoom, and there is a Zoom coffee hour after worship each Sunday.  The Sunday Scripture study class is meeting by Zoom at 9 am on Sundays, as well [...]
