Pastor’s Note for August 1st

Manna in the Wilderness

The Table of Our Lord We once again gather at the Table on Sunday, some actually in the sanctuary, but many more of you still participating from your homes. We rehearse the stories told and retold many times. We tell stories of manna in the wilderness and stories of meals shared by the familiar people of Israel’s centuries-long story of trust in the Holy One. We tell stories of Jesus’ meals with new acquaintances or old friends or disciples who called him Teacher. We tell stories of the meals of the new fellowships of the churches in Corinth and Ephesus and Philippi. We tell stories of the meals shared by Christians in congregations and church orders across time. All these stories are stories about how the Creator and Redeemer has chosen to enjoy fellowship with us and to encourage us [...]

Worship Services are Open!

We are delighted that in-person worship is now possible.  Reservations are no longer required, and these guidelines are now in place as we gather: In response to rising virus numbers in our region and recent guidance from the County, Oregon Health Authority, and CDC, our church is again requiring that all those attending worship and any other events inside the church keep masked at all times to help keep vulnerable members safe.  (Masking will again be regardless of vaccination status).  We regret the need for this, but the church has families whose children are not yet able to be vaccinated, and there are immunocompromised family members of those wishing to attend. Greeting time and refreshments after services will be on the plaza outside, as we will not be eating or drinking inside (with the exception of briefly unmasking to partake of [...]

Coronavirus Season Update

Dear friends, During these days amid all the changes and challenges they are holding, First Presbyterian is continuing to connect with our congregation, church friends, and those exploring our website. While apart, we are still the church.  With God and with each other, we are not alone. As this time of sheltering at home has continued, people are seeking things to sustain their soul.  Hoping you’ll stream our Sunday worship services at 10:30 am, or look at the Virtual Vespers services, quiet times of reflecting on faith and spirit.  You’ll also find here children’s sermons and creative resources for families at home with children. Many church groups are continuing to meet by Zoom, and there is a Zoom coffee hour after worship each Sunday.  The Sunday Scripture study class is meeting by Zoom at 9 am on Sundays, as well [...]

Coronavirus Season Update

Dear friends, During this uncertain time, First Presbyterian is offering new ways to connect with our church  community.  While apart, we are still the church.  With God and with each other, we are not alone. Over the last month, as people have not been able to come to church, we have brought church to them. After a full month of being only an online church, we have learned how important it is in the midst of the pandemic to still be the church. Over these past weeks, our church attendance by streaming has been growing, in recent weeks with more than our usual attendance, and including friends and visitors near and far! This time of sheltering at home has unleashed for many a fierce longing to connect to one another and to our spiritual lives – to the Source of [...]

COVID-19 Update from Pastor Audrey

Grace and peace to you, I will lift up my eyes unto the hills; from whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth… In these days of so much change, we hold fast to our faith to strengthen and sustain us. You all are much in my thoughts, and I’m encouraged in hearing how you are faring in these times of staying home. I want to update you on some of the things happening at church: On Wednesday, the church governing board, the Session, met in a Zoom virtual meeting to discuss a number of important issues. Here are the key decisions from that meeting: All worship services during the month of April will be livestreamed only, and we will continue to worship by streaming “until the way be clear.” They appointed [...]
